Mario Gianni, for more than 50 years, has produced, filmed, and directed programs and documentaries for RAI (Italian TV channel) and other television stations around the world.
He is one of the first to film the Yanomami in the Amazon, interviews Indira Gandhi after her coup, talk several times with the Dalai Lama and travel 2,000 kilometers in a rubber dinghy along the Congo. He interviews the victims of the tsunami in the Andaman Islands and the Italians who mine opals in Australia.
He films the Afghan Gulbuddin Hekmatyar in his mountain hideout and becomes the target of an attack by American troops during the interview. In Iran, he manages to get an interview with Khomeini's daughter, Zahra, who is bought by CBS and broadcast across America. And “yes”, the “Spaghetti al Fronte” program existed.
In 2008, Gianni produced four highly successful films for RAI on Italian troops on a NATO mission in various war theaters.
Despite numerous spectacular events in which he was able to tell the world political scene, in reality, the fundamental interest for Mario Gianni has always been the human species.
Travel, history, and people are my interest and my passion.
